Designed by Hannes for high function, made of 5/8” dia rod for no-flex performance. This larger diameter is easy to hold on to in use for better control and chatter free sanding even with the 5” disc. Each is drilled and tapped 5/16”-18 to accept the soft edge pad and has a set screw so it can be operated in reverse. The other end is turned to 3/8” to fit in your drill chuck.

We carry two sizes of caliper, the 8” because it may well be the most useful size but ours is made by Starrett and they simply are the best available. Spring nut for quick adjustment and smooth ball tip that will not scratch your work, own a pair of these and you will forget that you have other calipers.

HannesTool - ConeBone Coring Tool with Carbide Cutter

Hannes developed this tool for doing the cone separations from the inside of his hats. “I was not happy with the other coring options, they all seemed cumbersome, too much set-up and adjusting”. Something more simple and straight forward was called for but it had to be safe, other hand held coring tools from the past have been deemed to be unsafe.

The ConeBone accomplishes this with two features, the butt which gives it a gun like appearance. It doesn’t go against your shoulder but rather under your arm were it can be clamped there by your arm. The drop handle held in the same hand absolutely prevents the tool from rolling in the kerf, safe, simple, easy to use and very effective. A tool that will pay for itself in short order.

The business end of the ConeBone has a Nano grade carbide cutter that is sharper and stays that way longer than the standard micro grade.

Like Hannes says “When I make a hat I take a ring from around the crown and a core from inside, make a mirror frame from the ring, a mini hat from the core; go to a show and sell those two items and the whole cost of the tool is covered."

The 1 1/4" tool is for spindle roughing, I use this tool when turning my stands and wall racks for my hats as well as the ocasional Newel post or Baluster.

CPM10V steel also known as A11 is the best steel available today for the woodturning application.

The tool steel is custom made for us in extra length and extra flute length so that makes for less changing of steel longer use period and great return on investment, fully worth the slightly higher price tag. CPM10V steel also known as A11 is the best steel available today for the woodturning application.

Steel is available in 6 sizes now 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8”, ¾”, 1” and 1 ¼” all cut from solid CPM10V bar stock and triple tempered to Rockwell 62 and cryogenically toughened between both first and second heat treatments, also known as A-11 steel.
