The tool steel is custom made for us in extra length and extra flute length so that makes for less changing of steel longer use period and great return on investment, fully worth the slightly higher price tag. CPM10V steel also known as A11 is the best steel available today for the woodturning application.

Steel is available in 6 sizes now 3/8”, 1/2”, 5/8”, ¾”, 1” and 1 ¼” all cut from solid CPM10V bar stock and triple tempered to Rockwell 62 and cryogenically toughened between both first and second heat treatments, also known as A-11 steel.

Designed by Hannes for high function, made of 5/8” dia rod for no-flex performance. This larger diameter is easy to hold on to in use for better control and chatter free sanding even with the 5” disc. Each is drilled and tapped 5/16”-18 to accept the soft edge pad and has a set screw so it can be operated in reverse. The other end is turned to 3/8” to fit in your drill chuck.

This innovative tool was designed to be an alternative to the more elaborate “coring systems”. With this tool there is no set up, requiring no attachments or gated tool rests it is completely stabilized  by the under arm portion and the drop handle. It is so easy to control it is truly amazing! The Nano grained tungsten carbide tip is so sharp and cuts so freely that there is very little pressure needed and it cuts with almost no kick, being very pointed the tip folds the shavings so they exit the work piece readily.

Nano Grained Carbide is far more durable than Micro and you should easily get at least 100 cores before needing a replacement tip.
