Sir:
As a relatively new turner, I have been unsuccessfully searching for a 5/8″ deep U & 3/4″ set of Glaser U15 gouges (which Stuart Batty introduced me to) and came upon your name. Do you Manufacture the same type of gouge? (Powder cold forged with shot-filled handle)
Please send me a description of your gouges and the jobs they perform and necessary grinds along with your price list.
Hi Marc, thank you for your comment. Yes my tools are similar to the Glaser Gouges in that they have lead shot filled handles but are a “step-up” with my custom designed ergonomic rubber grip over aluminium for comfort and lightweight. The cutting steel is the same CPM10V from Crucible. JoHannes,
It was a pleasure meeting you and your family this morning. It was a real treat to visit your studio, and my son was thrilled to be able to see you at work. Spending more than two hours answering the questions of an inquisitive adolescent turner and his father was more than generous; the personal lesson was something that we could never have ever imagined.
I have purchased a few turning tools for my son online and from a woodworking store, and until today I believed they were all he would need to develop his talents in wood turning. Having watched him in your studio cut and shape a blank with the 3/8” and ½” HannesTools, I now know that they will be the only tools he will use. The gouges cut through the hardwood as if it was butter, and the precision cuts are going to reduce the amount of sanding required to finish his bowls. As soon as we got back to New Jersey he was in the garage turning with his new tools.
Thank you for the positive influence, and I hope he will be able to attend one of your three day workshops in the future.

Hi Tom,
Thanx for the kind summation of the time we spent together. Your son was a joy to share knowledge with, I always take great pleasure in share with young turners–passing on the joy of turning!!!
Happy to know that he is using the tools, many of my customers use the terms “my go to tool” and so it seems to be with your son “Christian”?
Please tell hime happy turning for me and you are both welcome back any time.
