These are all the Small Lathe tool rests, in every case the top bar is the same 5/8” diameter and 8” long  it is available with 6”, 7” and 8” stems 1” diameter for full sized lathes and with 3.5” and 5” stems 5/8” diameter for mini lathes. These stem lengths are all measured from top of top bar to bottom of stem.

To know what height you need simply measure your existing tool rest that came with your lathe.

Description

HannesTool “J” rests -the original “J” rests are eminently useful in any turning situation or context. The steel is hard enough to never become dented or need filing unlike the cast iron that comes with most lathes, it is also large enough in diameter to be plenty strong/stiff and not at all flexy no need for a support web under the bar which in many cases will get in the way of good turning. That is why we call our rests “the tool rests that know how to get out of their own way”… I’m sure you all know what I’m referring to!

We also make long rests with two stems for flute turners or any long spindle work, occasionally we stock some but mostly these are done on a custom basis, let me know how long and how tall you would like yours to be.
